Every second is to be accounted for as things are getting more and more commercialized. In trying to keep up with this hectic pace we inevitably neglect our health. There are many health issues we encounter on a daily basis but they are ignored as they have yet not affected our daily routine. The moment any of the health issue crosses the barrier and affects our daily work, is when we pause and give the attention it deserves.

Male infertility has been the cause for great concern in millions of men throughout the world. The problem has reached such magnitudes that almost every other store stocks foods and enhancement products to tackle male infertility.

Here are some of the must have foods for men to produce healthy sperms:

Zinc: Zinc is vitally important to increase the sperm count and achieve a high quantity of live sperms in the semen. Since zinc is present in semen, it is essential that it is replaced on a daily basis through an appropriate diet, since appreciable levels of zinc are lost through ejaculations.

Foods with high quantities of zinc are: barley, turkey, lamb, beans, wheat, oysters, raw sunflower, pumpkin seeds, red meats, nuts and beans among others.

Other foods such as seaweed, spinach, sesame seeds, poultry, egg whites, turkeys and tuna have also been found to increase the sperm count considerably.

Vitamins: Vitamins B12, Vitamin C & E also increase the production of sperms.

Eggs, cottage cheese, Brazil nuts should also be consumed on a regular basis to increase the sperm count. Guavas, pink grapefruits, tomatoes are rich in lycopene which increases the sperm count appreciably. Beet roots, broccoli, citrus fruits, asparagus and other dark green vegetables have been advised for men to increase their sperm count.

Salmon: This food is a great energy booster and helps in increasing the quality and quantity of the sperms. It is packed with omega-3s which aid in reducing LDL (bad) cholesterol. Apart from helping to increase the sperm count, this fish is loaded with proteins and has some tremendous health benefits.

Watermelon: All kinds of melons are good for the sperms since they help in maintaining the blood pressure as these fruits have high quantities of potassium. Watermelon is also beneficial as it contain high levels of lycopene which is an antioxidant.

Tomatoes: A healthy prostate produces “healthy swimmers”. Tomatoes are high in lycopene, an antioxidant which promotes prostate health. There are also indications that lycopene can contribute in reducing the risk of prostate cancer.

Berries: All kinds of berries – blueberries, strawberries, raspberries pack some impressive levels of antioxidants. Berries are known to prevent damage to the arteries. Which in effect means the probability of finding plaque on the walls of the arteries reduces significantly. This would ensure the smooth flow of blood, leading to a good sperm count.

Beans: These are of considerable help in lowering cholesterol which would lead to lower blood pressure. Beans are also packed with minerals.

Foods that inhibit the production of healthy sperms:

White flour, refined sugar, coffee, processed foods, carbonated water, binge eating, etc.

Smoking and alcohol should also be avoided. Masturbating out of habit and without sufficient arousal should also be avoided.

One of the most preferred ways to keep a healthy sperm count is to cultivate the right eating habits. This would infer concentrating on a diet which helps in healthy blood flow and is heart-friendly. The aim is to increase the blood flow and for that you require optimum blood pressure and free flowing blood in the arteries without any hindrances.

A normal and healthy sperm count is very important for couples that are trying to become parents.

The normal color of semen is mostly white or grey but can sometimes be yellowish. The definition of a ‘healthy’ sperm count is as follows: -
• The absorption of spermatozoa should typically be 20 million per ml.
• The minimum capacity of sperm should be 2ml.
• Spermatozoa in the seminal discharge should be 40 million.
• A minimum of 75 percent of the spermatozoa should be functioning (it is usual for 25 percent to be dead).
• 30 percent of the spermatozoa should be of regular structure and frame.
• 25 percent of the spermatozoa must be swimming with speedy onward motion.
• 50 percent of the spermatozoa have to be swimming ahead, even if it is in a lethargic manner.

Male Fertility Analysis:
The more general and wrong assumption in today’s world is that women are mostly the ones suffering from fertility issues. But both men and women equally share the problem. There are a few elements in our day today life that contribute to the diminishing health and increasing fertility related problems, such as smoking, drinking and high levels of stress.
When a couple has had unguarded and repeated sex for over a year and the woman has still not been impregnated, a medical practitioner would then normally identify infertility.
An assessment and examination by an urologist commences the male fertility test.
Questions such as your medical history, your way of life, if you smoke, drink alcohol or do any other kind of drugs are asked, followed by a somatic examination. Then an outspoken conversation about the couple’s sexual life and any sort of sexual problems they are facing are discussed.

Male Fertility Tests:

Sperm and Semen Investigation:
There are many different kinds of male fertility tests. This one begins with an examination by a professional, of the sperm count, shape, movement and other aspects. The maximum number of regular appearing sperm, the better is the fertility level.

Somatic Checkup:
An urologist generally performs this checkup.

Genetic Examination:
Genetic tests are conducted when the sperm count is alarmingly low and when there is verification of no blockage.

Cell Shape Tests:
The World Health Organization states that approximately 1/3 of the cells should be normally shaped.

Anti-Sperm Antibodies:
In certain cases, men produce unusual antibodies, which beat up the sperm on the way to the ovum, prohibiting conception. In certain cases there is a deficiency of sperm in the semen.

Varicoceles, which is an irregular formation of veins above the testicles is more frequently found in infertile men and can be surgically corrected.

Through continuous examinations and analysis of both men and women, most couples do have a positive conception. Some may require treatment and medications but tests are essential to identify the problem and then aid in finding a solution.
