Sucralfate is used to treat ulcers. It adheres to damaged ulcer tissue and protects against acid and enzymes so healing can occur.
Sucralfate tablet should be taken by mouth, on an empty stomach, 2 hours after or 1 hour before meals. It usually is taken four times a day, 1 hour before meals and at bedtime. Take sucralfate exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Side effects that you should report to your health care professional as soon as possible:

convulsions (seizures)
Drowsiness
Difficulty breathing
Skin rash
Swelling of the face and lips

Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your doctor.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed.
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products.
