Esomeprazole Generic suppresses the function of the enzyme in our bodies that produces gastric acid, so Nexium is effective in reducing the amount of acid secretion in the stomach, thereby preventing serious acid damage to the digestive system and giving relief from acidity-related ailments.

With the help of acid, the stomach is able to move its food content into the intestines; when sufficient amounts of acid are not present in the stomach; the food is pushed back into the esophagus [reflux] which causes acidity, leading to pain in the abdomen or swallowing, heartburn, possibly inflammation and erosion of the throat [esophagus]. This is called Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease [GERD].

Dyspepsia, commonly called indigestion, shows some of the same symptoms; besides there can be bloating and/or swelling of the abdomen, nausea, belching, and a feeling of satiety though a small amount of food may have been eaten. Dyspepsia can also occur because of an underlying stomach ulcer.

Pain and burning in the upper abdomen, along with copious vomiting [maybe with blood], may present itself because of a bile/pancreatic reflux, indicating the presence of a Peptic Ulcer. Other symptoms are loss of weight and appetite.

The very rare Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome [ZES] reveals its presence in the form of one or more tumours in the pancreas, duodenum or both, also leading to severe GERD, diarrhea and weight-loss in the patient.

Acidity, when acids rise up with the food back from the stomach to the esophagus, affects adults and children alike, even babies, who can all be treated with Nexium.
Nexium is available in Nexium 20mg tablets and Nexium 40mg tablets, as well as Nexium oral suspension – to be taken as advised by the doctor. Generic Nexium tablets can be taken with or without food; however, they should be swallowed whole, not chewed or crushed. For those who have difficulty in swallowing, it is recommended that they sprinkle the contents of the capsule onto cool applesauce or yogurt and eat it immediately.
